With a background in film and commercial production, Chris was intrigued by the potential of YouTube from the very early days. After the spectacular failure of a feature film he was directing, he made the jump into producing online videos in 2010 with the launch of the Hilah Cooking YouTube channel. The Hilah Cooking channel quickly expanded into a multimedia brand with several cookbooks, products and co-productions with companies including Scripps Networks, HGTV and Tastemade.
Eager to do more on YouTube, Chris approached Adriene with the idea of starting a YouTube channel that would bring free yoga videos to people all over the world. It took a little while to get things aligned, but in 2012 the Yoga With Adriene YouTube channel officially launched. What started out as a fun experiment and opportunity to work together gradually evolved into the amazing community you see now.
He has directed and produced hundreds of YouTube videos and amassed over 500 million views. He is YouTube certified in Audience development and was chosen to participate in the YouTube Next Chef and Creator Accelerator programs. He is the author of the YouTube BlackBook and a consultant for businesses who want to use online video to increase their sales and expand their influence. Chris lives in Los Angeles with his wife Hilah, their 3-year old son and two annoying dogs.
Jeff is a Texas native, Austin local, and proud to be a part of the FWFG team. Jeff and Adriene met back in 1998 and have been working together as creative collaborators and friends for 20 years now and because of this, they have a shared language.
Jeff wears many hats on the FWFG/YWA team. He is the Director of Live Events, Head of Merchandising, Sound Engineer, Tour Manager, and back up Benji tennis ball thrower. If you’ve ever waited in line to meet or have a photo taken with Adriene, chances are you know Jeff as he’s the one keeping the energy up and snapping the photos.
In his spare time, Jeff is an interdisciplinary theatre and film actor, producer, and writer as well as taco enthusiast and swimming savant.
Sarah Bowman lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two children. She discovered Yoga with Adriene back in the early days when she was trying to find balance while juggling family life and nursing school. Sarah joined the first YWA Facebook group and over time became an active part of the community.
In November 2015, she created her first yoga calendar and on a whim, shared it with the group. She continued sharing the calendars each month and now collaborates with Adriene on the theme for the monthly yoga calendars and playlists for the community.
In June of 2016, Sarah attended the first FWFG retreat in Nicaragua where she finally met Adriene and Chris and soon became part of the YWA team as the host of the new community site, the FWFG Kula. Sarah’s role has continued to evolve and she is now the Director of Community. She does not take this role lightly and sees herself as an advocate for the community and passionately safeguards it.
While Sarah is still a licensed registered nurse, she left the nursing field to take her love of caring and serving others to a larger global community. In her free time, Sarah can be found spending time with her family that she loves fiercely. Her other loves are her pets (the ones that live with her and the strays that she cares for), traveling, the ocean, reading mysteries (especially Agatha Christie), creating in the kitchen, and dabbling in writing. www.sarahbethbowman.com
Michelle Keffer is an Ohio native and an Austin lifer where she lives with her husband and daughter. She moved to Texas in 2004 to pursue her acting career and through theatre met Adriene and realized that they were soul mates.
When Adriene was teaching classes in a theatre lobby, Michelle would come in early to sweep the floors and prepare the space as trade for class. Over time, YWA grew and Michelle happily joined the team in January of 2017. She now manages the busy YWA calendar, YWA press, day-to-day operations from office to production and most importantly, tacos.
Michelle is also a voice over artist, and a film and theatre actor, producer and writer. In her spare time, she likes to experiment in the kitchen, on the sewing machine and on the dance floor.
Grant Harling was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, but is now an LA-based multi-hyphenate. After meeting Chris on a project in Los Angeles, he began editing for the YWA YouTube channel. He managed to successfully compile the first batch of videos, so Chris and Adriene brought him back for more. Some say he’s still editing to this day.
In 2017, he finally got to meet Adriene, and the rest of the YWA team, at the FWFG retreat in Nicaragua. Since then, he has also started filming some of the membership content. You may have seen him at a few events with a camera glued to his hand.
When he is not shooting and editing for YWA, he assumes the roles of actor, writer, and producer. He recently completed the feature film “Reach”, which had its world premiere at the 2018 Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood. You can also see him in the recently released features “The Debt Collector”, and “Locating Silver Lake”. He can also be found assuming the pose deemed “namaste shark fin”. www.grantharling.com
Katie Elliott, native Texan, has lived in many places along the west coast and just recently found her way back to Austin. Katie discovered that yoga soothed her teenage, emo angst and it has remained a big part of her life ever since. She feels passionately that yoga and meditation are two of the the best paths toward health and wholeness for body, mind and spirit.
Katie completed her first yoga teacher training with Baron Baptiste in Mexico in 2004, then Shiva Rea’s Trance Dance teacher training in LA in 2010, and Yin Yoga teacher training with Heather Tiddens in Santa Barbara in 2017.
Being “sisters from another mister,” Adriene invited Katie on board to sling totes and tees for the 2017 Roadshow and Katie was hooked. Now she’s one of the project managers for the team, she answers many of the yoga-related questions submitted via email and if you’ve ever bought merch at a live event, you’ve probably bought it from her as she works the pop up shop.
Katie is an artist and loves oil painting, printmaking, collage, and textiles. Her other joys are running her online shop, Dakini Studios, travel, hiking, reading and writing.
